Compressed working arrangements are available for new parents to support with childcare, for colleagues who provide care for dependants and for those with long-term conditions that require compressed working as a workplace adjustment. See below for further information for each scenario.

Compressed working: new parents

Compressed hours is available for new parents to help support with childcare up until the child’s second birthday.

Key information

  • This arrangement is not available where colleagues work shift patterns, e.g. Branch and most telephony teams.
  • Colleagues can utilise compressed working up to their child's second birthday.
  • The offering is limited to three patterns:
    • Nine-day fortnight
    • Four-day week
    • Reduced hours compressed -extend working day up to a maximum of eight and three-quarter paid hours.
  • Agreeing the most suitable day for the colleague to be off work should be done jointly with the line manager, wherever possible, ensuring the needs of the business and our customers are prioritised.
  • Where both parents are employed by LBG, they are both entitled to compressed hours.
  • Available to both full-time and part-time colleagues.

Does it need line manager approval?

Yes, you'll need to complete a flexible working request with an agreed end date and the revised working pattern will need to be captured on Workday.

Compressed working: long-term support

Compressed hours for long-term support is available to colleagues who provide care for dependants with long-term medical needs.

Key information

  • LBG define 'dependant' as a family member who is reliant on a colleague to help meet their essential care needs.
  • This arrangement is not available where colleagues work shift patterns, e.g. Branch and most telephony teams.
  • The offering is limited to three patterns:
    • Nine-day fortnight
    • Four-day week
    • Reduced hours - extend working day up to a maximum of eight and three-quarter paid hours.
  • Available to both full-time and part-time colleagues.
  • Colleagues can utilise compressed working for as long as needed for complex caring, but the arrangement will be reviewed at least once per year and assessed against the business needs.

Does it need line manager approval?

Yes, you'll need to complete a flexible working request with an agreed review date and the revised working pattern will need to be captured on Workday. The request will also need line manager +1 approval.

Compressed working: long-term conditions

Compressed hours for colleagues with long-term conditions that require compressed working as a Workplace Adjustment. This compressed option is for colleagues with disabilities, which includes physical, mental health and neurodiverse conditions, whereby a compressed arrangement is a reasonable adjustment based on the barriers they face due to their disability.

Workplace Adjustments are for colleagues with disabilities who feel they meet the Equality Act 2010 definition of disability.

Key information

  • This arrangement may be difficult to accommodate where colleagues work shift patterns e.g. Branch and most telephony teams. Colleagues and line managers will need to work together to identify adjustments that work for colleagues, customers and the team.
  • Colleagues should make their request via a Workplace Adjustment request in Workday.
  • The offering is normally limited to three patterns:
    • Nine-day fortnight
    • Four-day week
    • Reduced hours - extend working day up to a maximum of eight and three-quarter paid hours.
  • Available to both full-time and part-time colleagues.
  • Once agreed, the colleague and line manager will need to complete the Workplace Adjustments Passport. This will be reviewed at the colleague’s Your Best check-ins.

Does it need line manager approval?

Yes, you'll need to complete a flexible working request with an agreed review date (annually, or more frequently as required) and the revised working pattern will need to be captured on Workday.

Where appropriate, the request can be supported by a recommendation from the Occupational Health team. The request will also need line manager +1 approval
