Goodbye & good luck to Carol Anderson, Branch Banking Director

After a remarkable career at TSB, Carol Anderson is retiring. I had the pleasure of catching up with her to reflect on her time with us and what’s next.

How do you plan to slow down post-retirement?

“You know me, Linda, I’m not one to sit still! I’ve already got travel plans, time with my six grandchildren, and a focus on health and fitness. No more clock-watching for me!”

Any new ventures on the horizon?

“I’m exploring starting my own kennels and cattery—a high-end place where pets get the royal treatment! I even did dog training and showing in my teens, so I’m excited to bring that back.”

Looking back at your banking career, what are you most proud of?

“When I started as a shorthand typist 44 years ago, I never imagined leading mortgages, business banking, and branch banking. I’m proud of every role I’ve held. What I’ll miss most are the people—they’ve truly been my second family.”

Any advice for Jodie Thompson, your successor?

“Jodie is a superstar. My advice to her is simple: be kind to yourself as you lead this incredible team.”

We’ll miss Carol dearly and wish her all the best in her next chapter. Enjoy your well-earned retirement!

Farewell to Andy Baker after 27 years

Andy Baker, a dedicated colleague and Accord rep, is moving on after 27 years with the business. Starting in a Halifax branch, he has navigated changes through HBOS, LBG, and TSB, bringing a wealth of knowledge and support to his colleagues.

Reflecting on his time, Andy shared:

It feels surreal to be leaving after nearly three decades. I’ve had incredible experiences, from manning the Halifax float at the Lord Mayor’s Show to working all over Scotland. I’ve met brilliant people along the way, and the memories will last a lifetime.

Andy is a lifelong, passionate QPR fan. As a gesture of our appreciation and respect, Andy was presented with a framed, vintage QPR shirt – autographed by his hero Rodney Marsh. TSB’s People Director, Ariam Enraght-Moony joined in the presentation at TSB’s Head Office in London. Andy, we thank you for your service and wish you all the best in your future endeavours!

Your questions answered

Struggling after a restructure

I’ve recently been through a restructure and been placed in a new role, but I’m struggling with some parts of the job. What should I do?

Answer:

First, arrange a meeting with your line manager to discuss your concerns. Be open and honest about the areas where you’re struggling. Your manager should listen and explore support options based on your needs. This might include extra training, having a mentor, or reorganising your time to help you build your confidence in the role.

If things don’t improve after this, reach out to your local Accord Officer to discuss what steps to take next.

Registering as a carer

Should I register with the bank as a carer? What do I need to do?

Isn’t there a law that protects agency workers like me?

Answer:

Yes, it’s a good idea to register if you’re a carer. Start by visiting the HR Hub and checking out the carer’s checklist. This is a helpful way to identify yourself as a carer and get the support you need.

We also recommend having a conversation with your Team Manager (TM) and completing a carer’s passport. This is a live document that stays with you throughout your time at the company, and you can update it whenever things change.

The carer’s passport helps you and your TM have a clear conversation about the support you might need. It helps them understand your situation so they can assist you when necessary. Did you know you can get up to 70 hours of paid leave (pro rata) as a carer? TSB is leading the way in supporting carers! Check the HR Hub for more details.

Mediation

I’ve been feeling unhappy at work and feel I’m being treated differently from my peers. I’ve submitted a grievance, but now I’m told I must go through mediation first. Is this right?

Answer:

We’re sorry to hear you’ve been feeling this way. If any other members are in a similar situation, we encourage you to reach out to your local Accord Officer for support.

TSB’s resolution policy does recommend mediation as the first step when there’s conflict at work. While it’s not mandatory, mediation can be worth considering. It’s often a less stressful way to talk about what’s been happening and how it’s affected you, with the help of an independent, trained mediator. The goal is to find a solution that works for everyone. If mediation doesn’t resolve things, you can still proceed with your formal complaint.

You can find more details in the resolution policy on the HR Hub. We can also help arrange a meeting with a mediator to help you decide if it’s the right step for you.

What our TSB members are saying about Accord

Membership is worth every penny

I’ve been an Accord member for over 30 years, and while I never thought I’d need it, a recent issue made me realise the value of immediate support. It was worth every penny of my membership.
