We save farewell to Carol Anderson, Branch Banking Director, and to our TSB rep Andy Baker. Plus we answer your questions...
I’ve recently been through a restructure and been placed in a new role, but I’m struggling with some parts of the job. What should I do?
First, arrange a meeting with your line manager to discuss your concerns. Be open and honest about the areas where you’re struggling. Your manager should listen and explore support options based on your needs. This might include extra training, having a mentor, or reorganising your time to help you build your confidence in the role.
If things don’t improve after this, reach out to your local Accord Officer to discuss what steps to take next.
Should I register with the bank as a carer? What do I need to do?
Isn’t there a law that protects agency workers like me?
Yes, it’s a good idea to register if you’re a carer. Start by visiting the HR Hub and checking out the carer’s checklist. This is a helpful way to identify yourself as a carer and get the support you need.
We also recommend having a conversation with your Team Manager (TM) and completing a carer’s passport. This is a live document that stays with you throughout your time at the company, and you can update it whenever things change.
The carer’s passport helps you and your TM have a clear conversation about the support you might need. It helps them understand your situation so they can assist you when necessary. Did you know you can get up to 70 hours of paid leave (pro rata) as a carer? TSB is leading the way in supporting carers! Check the HR Hub for more details.
I’ve been feeling unhappy at work and feel I’m being treated differently from my peers. I’ve submitted a grievance, but now I’m told I must go through mediation first. Is this right?
We’re sorry to hear you’ve been feeling this way. If any other members are in a similar situation, we encourage you to reach out to your local Accord Officer for support.
TSB’s resolution policy does recommend mediation as the first step when there’s conflict at work. While it’s not mandatory, mediation can be worth considering. It’s often a less stressful way to talk about what’s been happening and how it’s affected you, with the help of an independent, trained mediator. The goal is to find a solution that works for everyone. If mediation doesn’t resolve things, you can still proceed with your formal complaint.
You can find more details in the resolution policy on the HR Hub. We can also help arrange a meeting with a mediator to help you decide if it’s the right step for you.

Membership is worth every penny
Chris, Branch NetworkI’ve been an Accord member for over 30 years, and while I never thought I’d need it, a recent issue made me realise the value of immediate support. It was worth every penny of my membership.
