Leaving your employer doesn't mean you have to leave your union.
Did you know that you're entitled to be a member of the union of your choice, no matter who your employer is? If there’s a union at your new workplace, we recommend you join them for the simple reason they'll be involved in negotiating your terms and conditions of employment. But if there isn’t, then we’re well placed to look after your individual needs. Stay with us as an associate member.
Retiring or leaving on redundancy? You may not need the union for employment matters anymore, but you can retain your membership and make use of our benefits like our travel club, legal advice and will writing services. You can also remain in our monthly lottery draw to be in with the chance of winning £5k every month!
Associate membership is offered at a reduced monthly rate. You can make the changes to your membership category by logging on to the My profile self-service section of our website.
I want to cancel Update your membershipGoing on maternity/adoption/shared parental leave doesn't mean you have to cancel your union membership. Did you know you may be entitled to free membership for up to 12 months?*
It's easy to let us know you're going on leave through an online form - be sure to provide us with everything we need to process your application.
While you're on leave, you'll still be able to use our services and Accord benefits. And when you're ready to return to work, we'll be on hand to help answer your questions. If something happens while you're on leave, such as a business restructure, we'll help you understand your rights and support you through the process.

Ready to apply for your free period?
I want to cancel Check eligibility & apply for a subs free periodWe understand that when finances are tight, we all need to cut back on things we think we can do without. But union membership is more than just another subscription. It’s insurance for your job.
Your membership buys you a say and influence over everything that happens to you at work. And protects you when things aren’t going so well.
You get access to some great benefit schemes which can easily save your monthly subscriptions if you make good use of them.
The amount you pay us every month depends on your contract type and how many hours per week you work. Make sure you’re on the right subscription before you leave us – it could be the saving you’re looking for.
And If you're facing financial hardship, chat to our membership team using our online chat or call us on 0118 934 1808 (9am-5pm Monday to Friday) or send us a quick contact to give us the opportunity to help you through this difficult time.
I want to cancel Check your membershipWe strive to do our best for our members and if we’ve let you down, we’re sorry. Before you go, we’d like to try to put things right. Send an email to [email protected] and we’ll do what we can to help.
If you remain unhappy, we’ll organise for your membership to be cancelled and we’ll not charge you the months’ notice you’re supposed to give.
You’re entitled to join the union of your choice. But we hoped it would be us!
We’re always sad to see members leave us, that’s why we’re always trying our best to improve our service.
Before you go, we want to make sure you’ve chosen a union that can do everything you want them to do for you. Not every union is the same or has the same access to your employer.
The important question to ask your new union is, “do you meet regularly with my employer and negotiate my terms and conditions of employment”? If they don’t then they have very little influence – if any. As an Accord member, yours is one of 25,000 voices. Your employer listens to us.
If you change your mind and want to come back to Accord, we’d love to have you. Chat to our friendly membership team using our online chat or call on 0118 934 1808 (9am-5pm Monday to Friday) and they’ll sort it out for you.
Decided you’d rather face the challenges of working life alone? Before you leave us, we hope you don’t mind us reminding you of what being a union member really means.
Accord membership is like an insurance policy for your job. Keeping it as secure as possible and putting in place agreements that protect you as you go about your daily working life.
As a member, yours is one of 25,000 voices. Your employer listens. Before you go, ask yourself these simple questions:
Need a little bit more persuading to stick with us? ...Did you know that using your membership benefits can save you more money than you're paying us? Don't just take our word for it though, have a look at the benefits we offer. The Accord travel club, for example, isn't just for those jetting off to further shores - and they've really shown how they can help our members during the covid-19 pandemic by taking the hassle out of refunds and booking changes.
