LBG announce the closure of Speke & Dunfermline
Lloyds Banking Group has announced the planned closure of its Speke Estuary House and its Dunfermline Pitreavie sites, scheduled for Q3 of 2025 and the second half of 2026, respectively.
LBG has provided this notice well in advance to ensure that the individual circumstances of all affected colleagues are carefully considered.
- Speke: It’s envisaged that colleagues working in the Speke site will transfer to the Chester Cawley House site, located 23 miles away. LBG’s Travel & Mobility policy defines unreasonable travel as 25 miles or 1hr 15 mins from a colleague’s home.
- Dunfermline: Colleagues currently working full-time on-site or with a 40% weekly in-office requirement at Dunfermline will be transferred to a central Edinburgh location, which is 20 miles away.
Travel & Mobility Support
LBG has confirmed that its current Travel & Mobility policy will apply to eligible colleagues who transfer to the new locations in Chester and Edinburgh. Colleagues who meet the qualifying criteria—10 additional miles or an extra 30-minute journey time each way—will be able to claim reasonable travel expenses for 12 months. After this period, any additional commute costs will no longer be reimbursed, which may effectively reduce net income. Given distances involved, members required to travel more than 25 miles/1 hr 15 minutes, will need to estimate the cost/time of travel and decide if this is something they are able to do.
Accord’s Position
Accord has advocated for improvements to the Travel & Mobility policy for over six years, maintaining that no colleague should bear the financial burden of a Group decision that results in substantial cost savings for LBG. Accord will continue to support affected members and press for fairer policies on their behalf.
While these site closures are not immediate, we understand that members may have concerns about their individual situations. Accord is here to support all members through this significant transition.
