LBG announce the closure of Sheffield & Cheadle
Lloyds Banking Group has announced the planned closure of its Sheffield Furnival Court and Cheadle Heathside Park sites, scheduled for the second half of 2026 and the second half of 2025, respectively.
LBG has provided this notice well in advance to ensure that the individual circumstances of all affected colleagues are carefully considered.
- Sheffield:
It’s envisaged that colleagues working in the Sheffield Furnival Court site will transfer to the Leeds Wellington Place site, located 37 miles away. Given the significant travel distance, LBG’s Travel & Mobility policy defines this as unreasonable. Each business area in Sheffield will review its requirements for colleagues based at this site, considering the impact of this change
- Cheadle: Colleagues currently working full-time on-site or with a 40% weekly in-office requirement at Cheadle will be transferred to the Manchester Portland Street location, which is 7.5 miles away.
Travel & Mobility Support
LBG has confirmed that its current Travel & Mobility policy will apply to eligible colleagues who transfer to the new locations in Leeds and Manchester. Colleagues who meet the qualifying criteria—10 additional miles or an extra 30-minute journey time each way—will be able to claim reasonable travel expenses for 12 months. After this period, any additional commute costs will no longer be reimbursed, which may effectively reduce net income.
Accord’s Position
Accord has advocated for improvements to the Travel & Mobility policy for over six years, maintaining that no colleague should bear the financial burden of a Group decision that results in substantial cost savings for LBG. Accord will continue to support affected members and press for fairer policies on their behalf.
While these site closures are not immediate, we understand that members may have concerns about their individual situations. Accord is here to support all members through this significant transition.
