Accord stands in solidarity with the people of Southport
Accord stands in solidarity with the people of Southport and all affected communities following the tragic events of Monday, 29th July. Our deepest sympathies go out to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and those currently receiving treatment for their injuries. The priority should be to support these individuals and their families during this difficult time.
We condemn the attempts by far-right groups to exploit this tragedy to spread division and hatred. Such actions, including the targeting of police, emergency services, and Muslim communities, are based on falsehoods and only serve to deepen the pain of this tragic event. We must not allow hate and misinformation to take root in our communities.
The response from our emergency services, public service workers, teachers, and community organisations has been exemplary. They have acted with professionalism, compassion, and dedication, and we are immensely grateful for their efforts. These acts of solidarity and care remind us of the strength and unity within our communities.
As a union, Accord is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. We stand against all forms of racism and xenophobia and will continue to work towards uniting our members and communities. We urge an end to the violence and call for those responsible to be held accountable.
